Roblox - Vacuum the Forest Fire Game Environment Concepts & Level Design

Along with concepting what the world here could look like, I also got to do some level building for this one. Here I was able to use some assets our Standoff Game environment, as well as some new pieces the 3D team had made, and create a small mocked up early section of our level.

The Project Director really liked what I'd made there, so we pulled it into the actual main level, and I was then tasked with expanding that into a whole playable level. Using the game environment models described above, along with other primitives for things like cabins etc, I was able to create a whole explorable level that we could build on (complete with a secret treasure cave!)

I also created a multi-layer custom sky sphere with varying rotations on each sphere to create a parallax effect of moving clouds.

Here's a level concept I painted, based on re-using assets from the previous Roblox Standoff game that I had worked on, changing hilly desert to mountain region, I could use recolored assets along with painting in some new custom foliage and a new skybox

For this 3D level mock-up, I painted over a small whitebox level sample I’d made and expanded that into a full size map that I could show the Director and then start building the actual level on top of it in engine.

As I was building the level, I had a game mechanic idea for a giant boulder that would roll around the level and steamroll fire sprites, so I created this as a test to present to the team :D

For the sky sphere, I created an inverted sphere in Blender, imported into Roblox, scaled it up, and set it to rotate slowly. The sky ended up being 3 spheres, the inner 2 using transparency to add parallaxing clouds
